The Good Confession

How many reading this believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God?

Jesus had rebuked the Pharisee’s and the Sadducees because they could not tell the “signs of the times” – and after He had left them He asked this question of His closest men.

Matthew 16:13
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

This is a valid question to ask men today!

What does the man of the street have to say about who Jesus is?

In the day Jesus spoke this, the name of Jesus had become synonymous with healing the sick and even raising the dead.

I am sorry to say that in our day Jesus has not been getting the same kind of press!

Listen to the answers that the “common” folk on the street said about Jesus…

And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

Some said - John the Baptist –

Matthew 14:1 –2
At that time Herod heard of the fame of Jesus,
And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him.

Even Herod, a wicked man thought about who Jesus was!

Some say that thou art Elias…
This proved that “some” actually knew the scripture, because there is a prophesy in Malachi that reads.

Malachi 4:5 –6
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

"Some say that thou art Jeremias, or one of the prophets. "

One might say that for any other man this would be quite a high evaluation, but remember, we are talking about the one who is…

The Christ –

The Righteous Branch –

The Bread of life.

The Vine –

The Way, The Truth and The Life
The Word made flesh,

The Alpha and the Omega -
The Lamb of God –

The Express Image of the Father –

The One, in whom, the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily.

Seeing that this is whom we are referring to, you can see why when they were up on the mount with Jesus the voice echoed from heaven…

“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, Hear Ye Him”

Jesus re-directs their minds with a direct question that would penetrate into their hearts,

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

I don’t know, but it would not surprise me that there may have been a short moment of silence…

Jesus is asking those who are the closest to Him.

He is asking those who have suffered the stress, pain and discomfort of a three year (24/7) ministry.

They really had left all to follow Christ, and He wants them to know and understand why!

This kind of full time labor would have run “even the strongest of men ragged!

It was a great challenge to keep up with Jesus! – Of course, it still is!

Jesus asked them…who do you say that I am…?

And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

All the things that Peter could have said about Jesus, remembering all the sights and sounds that they had witnessed with Jesus, the healing, raising of the dead, words of comfort, miracles - and Peter is given to see and "boil it all down" into a single precise statement …

“Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

The Apostle John set this “good confession” in stone “as it were” in his first letter, and also made an application concerning those who do not believe that Jesus is the Christ!
1 John 4:2 –3
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

All those who God has put into Christ have come in the same way, and that "way" is through the perception (given to us by God) of who Jesus really is! If you know, then give thanks to God - If you know, then go tell it on the mountain!

Grace and Peace,

Keeping Power Of Faith

The Keeping Power of Faith

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Jesus is the “author of eternal salvation”

Hebrews 5:9
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Everything that Jesus author’s is both needed and required for salvation.

There has never been a time when God has warned men that they could have “too much” of the faith that Christ authors. Christ Himself, while He walked on this earth, spoke complementarily of those with “great faith”

Matthew 15:28
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

I question any comment that suggest anything God gives men to save them could possibly lead them astray. Yet, in our day we have all sorts of warnings that suggest such a thing could happen.

Have you ever heard the following statements?

“You can be too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good”

What exactly was the person intending to say that “came up” with that one? - Obviously true heavenly mindedness was not clearly understood, because those who are filled with the considerations and hope of heaven will be the most productive of people, both on earth and in glory.

How about these statements… “We don’t believe in believing to be saved” or “We don’t have faith in faith” or “faith doesn’t save you, God does”

All of these statements betray an ignorance of what faith and believing is, could something that Jesus authored, or God worked in the person eventually lead to their rejection by God?

It is my personal persuasion that the “de-evolution” of divine nomenclature has resulted in the deterioration of understanding what God has revealed in His word.

If men are allowed to play god with the meaning of sanctified words, changing them to their own twisted meanings, thus adding to the ever-increasing flood of modern translations of the scriptures, then how will “the word of faith” be preached and understood?

1 Corinthians 1:17 –18
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Ultimately, the matter of faith, believing and salvation are not merely in the hands of men. God has undertaken to “save them that believe” and this He will do through His Son, Christ Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:3 –5
And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

The Church must be ever vigilant to maintain the focus that “true or genuine faith” in the God of heaven produces.

Anything that attempts to turn our eyes away from Jesus must be thoroughly cast down and abandoned.

The Apostle gives us the perspective that faith affords those who are disciples of the Lamb.

Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

There is no life outside of Christ Jesus, and there is no access to the Life of Christ Jesus outside of “the faith of the Son of God” – That faith will keep you, as long as you keep it.

The Gold of that land is Good!

And the gold of that land is good…(Genesis 2:12)

Those who are in Christ Jesus have not been called to a place of meager portions. While it is true that our flesh is “wasting away” and we have no inheritance in the earth, I want to remind us today that this is not our home!

We have been called to a place that is rich with satisfaction for the soul.

Psalm 16:11
Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

God is on the initiative in salvation. We can trust that He will reveal the “path of life” to us as we embrace His Son.

The incentives that God holds out transcend the natural order and while the first fruits of those incentives are satisfying to the souls now, the fullness of the blessing awaits the day when those who have been transformed into the image of His Son are “with Him” – where all the real pleasures can be enjoyed.

If this were the only incentive being held out then we would not have to suffer being entreated, exhorted and corrected but we have an enemy that is very active in offering things that do not really satisfy the soul at all, they are cheap imitations, designed to distract the souls of men away from the “bounty” that is only found in the person of Christ.

Jesus instructed the church of the Laodiceans with these words.

Revelation 3:18
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

It is true that we are confronted with choices on every hand, and yet, when Christ makes your heart new, the only thing that can really satisfy the soul is the presence of our God.

I highly recommend that we only buy gold from Jesus! His gold is of the best quality and actually, it is a great value when you consider the Day of Judgment.

Jesus wants us to be “rich” – “clothed” – and be able to “see” - not in this world’s gold, but with the “precious things” that only He is selling. There is a cost associated with following Jesus, and when you are willing to pay the price (taking up your cross and following after Jesus) then we find that what we have left behind was not even worth to be compared with what we are reaching forth to obtain.

When God put us “into Christ” He also puts some things in us - (God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.)

Whatever God has placed in us can be likened to this “gold” that only God’s Son can give. The things that the Holy Spirit are working in us need to find expression both in us, and out of us, it is likened to a “well of water” that is springing up from within and when we share what great things God has given us we will find that it is precious, just like gold.

1 Peter 1:7
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Yes, Jesus is selling gold! And I must testify that the gold of that land is VERY good!

“There’s a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar,
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.”
